Our third week round up
The Confederate forces were unable to repeat their Week 2 clean sweep with the Union forces pulling themselves back into order. The Left Flank with Don and Alan met at Goose Creek. A flanking attack by the Union forces across the river downstream led the Confederate forces to get squeezed from all sides. Despite this, a tactical withdrawal was successfully completed by Don so despite getting battered and beaten he still technically wins the game. The right flank saw the combined forces of Brian and David's Confederates against Anton's Union. This game was unfortunately terribly quick. The Confederates tasked with burning the fields failed to give any orders turn one. The Union on the other hand managed full successful command rolls and ran three full moves up the table to form a defensive line at the fields. Outnumbered when trying to attack a defended position, the Confederates had no hope and after a failed left flank push, pulled back their forces to fight another day.
Battle attrition continues with Anton and Don both losing a unit. Brian and David survived unscathed and Alan continues his clean record.
This Sunday 24th will be the Gettysburg Battle and whoever wins this battle is determined the overall victor. The Confederates are looking mighty rough compared to the nearly 2:1 Union force. Something crafty along with something brave will be needed for a Rebel win.
I'll post the map and details later.

And so we move onto our last day of the campaign.
Re-cap
Left Flank Over the past several weeks our left flank push saw Confederate Generals Don and Ken battle first against Union General Anton at Brandy Station before going head to head twice against the Union defence led by Union General Alan.
First week saw Don and Ken losing just by a hairs length against Anton, allowing the Union to gain the first victory. However despite this start, Don and Ken have managed to win both of their intermediate weeks against Alan, both occasions against a far larger force. So far in the Campaign Don and Ken share the highest prestige bragging rights with Anton at having won two out of three games played, however we have Confederates winning 3 against 2 in overall games.
Our Union left flank has been led by Alan who currently has the winning title of safest commander. Although not managing to break through Don and Ken's defences at Second Winchester and Goose Creek, Alan has so far been the only general to not lose a single regiment through attrition. A fine feat indeed.
Right Flank Our right flank has been pushed north by our Confederate Generals Brian and David. At Brandy Station, they managed to hold off Alan's assault but unfortunately couldn't affect their left flank led by Don and Ken. Even with this start, Brian led a confident victory against Union forces at the Ambush at Westminster using a great concentration of force to destroy the Union infantry before their cavalry could return to even the odds. The next battle at Hanover saw an almost total defeat of Confederate forces. Being pushed out of the fields by a surprisingly fast Union advance, Brian and David did manage to break an artillery team with accurate shooting before a brave (and almost unfortunate) charge into the middle of the Union line saw off a Union infantry regiment. This last push cost the Union an artillery team never to return.
Our Union right flank has been led by Anton. A steady pattern of win, loss, win, loss, should hopefully play out further netting the Union a win at Gettysburg. While drawn for top wins with Don and Ken, Anton also shares in their troop attrition having won these battles at a cost. Anton will have to hope Alan's superior numbers can be brought to the Confederates to keep Gettysburg blue.
Overall, our Confederate team have managed a 3 out of 5 games won but have suffered drastic reductions in fighting regiments for the final game. It will be a competition of Confederate speed and ferocity against Union numbers and defence, it's still anyone's game.

Week 4 Gettysburg We find ourselves at Day Three of Gettysburg. Confederate attacks on the Union's infamous 'fish-hook' defence has not netted any serious wins for the rebels. Fighting in Day one helped push the Union south of Gettysburg with fighting in the streets itself however a failure to capitalise on this Union retreat has allowed the blues to set up a defence. Fierce fighting in Day Two happened across the line but especially in the extreme left flank where battles of Devil's Den and Round Top saw the most casualties. In an attempt to break the Union line, Confederate leadership has called for an offensive on the extreme right flank of the Union line, this time at Culp's Hill. While the Confederates will start with superior numbers, the interior lines of travel permitted to the Union by their fish-hook defence has allowed a secondary force to come to their aid. If the Confederates can win here the Battle of Gettysburg can be theirs for the taking, however if history prevails and the Union lines hold the Confederate's order Pickett to charge the centre and the battle is lost. ObjectivesConfederate forces come on from off the board anywhere along the top board edge. They may (and probably will wish to) arrive together and push hard at the Union. Union forces are split into two. One force starts on the higher wooded hill and must face the initial Confederate charge alone. The second force will arrive off table from the right board edge. Which ever team wins this game wins the campaign. Victory ConditionsBreak both sides of the opposing army. (Both sides break independently as per previous games) OR By the end of Turn 12. Whoever owns the larger wooded hill (the left one). The union players roll off to determine who is which force. Lower roll starts on the hill (and is potentially sacrificed to the Confederates) While the Confederates are free to play as they wish, the idea is that while the Confederates have less overall numbers, they will get to fight the Union piecemeal. By routing the first army and taking the hills they can prepare for the counter attack. But this is Blackpowder so probably the Confederates won't get to move for three turns and it's all over turn four. Attachments:

and with that the campaign is over!
Union Victorious! The Union forces held strong at Culp's Hill pushing back the Confederate assault winning Gettysburg and giving the Campaign to the Union.
The Battle For a more in depth overview, the Union forces diced off to see which soul was to start on Culp's Hill and meet the Confederates first push. Anton was the unlucky one and set up his forces along the wooded hill line, while Alan set-up to come on the very far table edge hopefully rushing to his aid.
Unfortunately for the rebels, their current front winner Don was ill in his generals quarters and couldn't make the field, so they'd have to fight a general down. The remaining three Confederate generals however opted not to go all-in at Culp's Hill. Hoping to buy more time the Confederates split their force into thirds with Ken, David, and Brian taking a section each. Ken was tasked with stalling Alan while Brian took a frontal assault on Culp's Hill alone. David took his third to try and outflank the hill and provide potential support to both Ken and Brian if needed.
Unfortunately this splitting of forces was to be their downfall. The Confederates already weakened from the previous engagements couldn't bring the numbers to bear against the Union. At all points of engagement the Union forces outnumbered the Rebels and after a few turns of firing both Ken and Brian's brigades broke. With only a third of the Confederate force left against both an entrenched Anton and quickly approaching Alan, the game was over. It was a tall challenge for the Confederates but that is the way campaigns can go.
Thanks to everyone who took part, this was my first finished campaign at the club and I think it went well all things considered. Cheers!
