Hi all,
I don't know if any of you have had a swatch at the latest Wargames Illustrated, but there is an interesting piece on the Wanhsien Incident in Warlord-era China.
For those who may not have heard of it, its basically Royal Navy protecting ships from a local Warlord, Yang Sen. I think it could make a fun Back of Beyond scenario, depending on how much Warlord Chinese we have available. My initial thoughts were having a player each control a docked cargo ship and their crews, another player is the British force, and another is Yang Sen's forces. Basically the Chinese win if they capture so many of the cargo ships (the number depending on how many players/ships we have, probably 50% +1), The British win if they can stop the Chinese from achieving their objective and the individual ships win if they maintain control of their vessels. Any thoughts?

I've came up with a scenario that I think will be quite fun. I have a map drawn which gives a rough estimation of the table, and deployment. Scenario Objectives1) Warlord Weng Chiang:Capture and control over 50% of the total remaining ships (cargo or otherwise)by the end of the game. This means that no hostile forces remain on board a ship which has at least one of your men on board. You need these ships for your own survival as rival warlords are bearing down on you and you want to put the Yangtze between you and them, so destroying the ships is undesirable. 2) British: Stop Weng Chiang from achieving his objective. Your mission will be considered a failure if over 50% of all ships are either destroyed or captured by the end of the game. 3) Cargo Crews: Stop your ship from falling into the talons of Weng Chiang. 4) Bribed Crew Assist the Chinese in their objective, maintain control of your own ship. Scenario RulesGeneral - Infantry must take 1 full move to embark/disembark from a boat.
- Before deploying the British and cargo ship crews roll for initiative, from the highest to lowest they each select their own jetty. Note the British do no start docked but can reserve a Jetty for their ships. Initiative
beyond this point is dealt with in the usual manner i.e. cards. - Communication between the British and the ship crews is strictly prohibited, unless in a unit's turn, it chooses to communicate with another ship and that ship's crew are on board to receive the message. This will require a successful die roll. If a British officer is in range of a ship's crew, then the players can communicate.
Weng Chiang- Chinese forces deploy 6" in with the option to have mortars and field guns starting deployed due to this being a prepared attack. One unit of Warlord infantry start in town with the Chinese player selecting one building to act as a makeshift barracks. These infantry are Weng Chiang's local enforcers.
Cargo Ship Crews- Cargo ship crews start on board their respective vessels. They have each been instructed by their employers not to move the ships under any circumstances, this is due to the Chinese having previously attempted to force the
crews to transport their forces on the river. From the 3rd turn after initial contact with hostile Chinese forces, individual crews can attempt to contact their superiors for permission to move their ships. To do this a crew member must be on the ship and not engaged in close combat. The ship must be free from any hostile boarders before moving and the change of orders only applies to the individual ship which initiated the communication. - One of the cargo ship crews have been bribed by Weng Chiang. That crew is selected by the Chinese player and will duly coordinate with the Warlord forces. This crew's victory conditions are separate from the rest and will only count as winning if the Chinese triumph. The bribed crew's loyalties are revealed at the crew player's discretion.
- Being Warlord China, where everyone and their granny needs weapons, each of the cargo ships is carrying a "heavy" piece of equipment. The bosses have told you not to use the merchandise but with countless Chinese bearing down on you, you think better of it. Each crew rolls randomly to determine what they have access to, there is only one of each item so the rolls will be taken the first time each respective crew's card is drawn. 1-2) 2x LMG or 1x HMG, 3-4) 1x Artillery piece, 5) 1x Armored Car, 6) 1x Tank.
So those are my thoughts. Who's interested in playing and as what? I would like to play as the Chinese, hence why I have changed the historical name of the warlord to my own made up Chinese warlord Weng Chiang. Although, there is the possibility, depending on the number of people wanting to play, of there being two Chinese commanders. So we need a British player (I wonder who it might be ) and a good few players to man the cargo crews. Once we have allocated who is who, the Chinese will select and contact the bribed crews to begin making our arrangements. I know we're busy with different games on for the next couple of weeks, so I am happy to wait a good while to play this one. I'm planning on buying some warlord Chinese to bolster our numbers. img20190926_16523208.pdf (254.4 KB)

Aiming for potentially playing this on either Sunday the 27th of October, or the following Sunday on the 3rd of November, obviously depending on player availability and potential conflicts with any previously arranged games.

Hi all,
Would you guys mind if we moved the game back to the following week (10th Nov)? I've got quite a lot on with work this week and I'm moving house, so I won't have much time to get my figs finished.
