I've put together a 2000 point, 20 order dice USMC force. I will be back before Carronade- not sure when, but probably in time to build and paint some more USMC

Should be able to make it this Sunday.
Thinking of buying a spru of Japanese infantry and painting them up for maybe Sunday or Carronade. Would this be useful?
I'll try to have a read of bolt action rules too, is there a beach landing supplement that is worth reading too?

Welcome to the forum Tom.
We should have all the figs needed for the game at Carronade, but by all means, get started on some Japanese! Alan and I are planning a Shanghai game and will need quite a few! On Sunday, we're doing Yanks vs Germans, but using the scenario for Carronade. Its to test the scenario before the show, but the Japs won't be ready this Sunday.
If its the pacific you are interested in, I would suggest Empires in Flames. There is no specific book on beach landings per se, the supplements are more geared towards specific campaigns and theatres.

Tom Absolutely- Japs would be good, it takes the pressure off Davy. I have a few more Marines to finish off for the show. I have been trying to work out how to fit them into the available landing craft. The beach landing rules are in Duel in the Sun, Empires in Flames, Overlord, Marianas and Palau, Sealion, and probably more. They are quite simple, but there are occasional inconsistancies- Principally with whether LCAs and LCVPs are armoured or not. Consensus between Davy and I is that the LCA is 7+, and the LCVP is 6+ (Saving Private Ryan notwithstanding!). In reality the Rangers at Pointe du Hoc were landed from British LCAs anyway

Both Alex and Ken have done beach landings in the Madasahatta campaign, albeit against native opposition. Lessons we can draw from this experience;- 1. Pick a beach defended by spear armed natives. 2. Attack it with heavily armed US Marines 3. Avoid letting the natives attack your very elite Finns as you step off the ramp. That way you don't lose your mortar, a squad of Sissi and the Landing craft....
We also did an Operation Torch game, where the French KOed the LCM with the Sherman in it

Hi Tom. If Japanese is what you're interested in then by all means go for them, but if there is another army that piques your interest then go for that - it's usually more fun (and you're more likely to get through painting) a force you have a liking for.

It covers Poles, Belgians, Dutch . Danes, Norwegians and Partisans/resistance as well as the French. Like most of the Army books, it's a bit repetitive. With the advent of Easyarmy, that is the goto for lists anyway, as they get updated when the new campaign books come out. Incidentally, Warlord have put their prices up for the plastics- they are now 33 quid a box. A company called gamesandbits.co.uk are still selling at £22 plus postage

I concur with Alan (Zhao Zilong), Tom. Go for an army your actually interested in or they'll quickly end up shelved (speaking from frequent personal experience). I'm doing my Japanese mostly for China and far East Asia, based around the Kwantung Army.
