Today's full run through of Sharp Practice was a Seven Years War Game- mainly because of figure availability. It was and encountyer battle between the Austrians and Prussians.
We used the standard lists, and rolled and got 8 (Prussian) and 10 (Austrian) support points respectively . The Austrians spent theirs on another group of 8 German Fusiliers, a Drummer, and an officer upgrade. The Prussiand brought a drummer, and 2 level one sergeants.
Forces
Austrian leader 1 - Lvl 3, 4 groups of German Fusiliers
Austrian leader 2- Lvl 3, 2 groups of Hungarian Fusiliers
Austrian leader 3- Lvl 2, 2 Groups of Grenadiers
Austrian leader 4- Lvl1, 1 group of Croat skirmishers
Prussian leader 1- lvl 3. 2 groups of Musketeers, plus a lvl 1 feldwebel
Prussian Leader 2- lvl 2, 2 groups of Grenadiers, plus a lvl 1 feldwebel
Prussian Leader 3- lvl 2, 2 groups of Fusiliers
Prussian Leader 4- lvl 2, one group of Freikorps skirmishers.
At the end of the game, we reached some conclusions:-
1. the Austrian 4 group unit was too large for one officer to control. It took ages to get lined up, and although it delivered one massive volley, it was a big target, and the 3 Prussian line units were able to inflict a lot of shock on it, as well as half a dozen casualties, so it was on the verge of collapse . It seriously damaged the Prussian Grenadiers, but the presence of a second leader with the Prussian unit meant that shock removal was much easier, and they became combat effective again quickly.
2. Line units don't cope well with villages, hedges and trees. Do they,Ken.....?
3. Skirmish units don't cope well with shock. The Croats were caught by a controlled volley from the Prussian Grenadiers, and were pretty much out of the game after that. Thye prussian Freikorps also got "shocked", although not as badly, pulled back out of the way, removed shock, and then continued on to hold up the Austrian left flank
4. Several random events happened, including Austrian Leaders 1 and 2 being knocked off their horses by their own men, Austrian Grenadiers being briefly distracted by village whores, Prussians with fouled barrels, and thick smoke
5. Great Fun!
