They have a narrow escape from a Parliamentary frigate, and then get lost in a storm, ending up in the Orkneys. There they sign on as crew in a ship bound for the American colonies.

Arriving off the east coast of the Virginia colony, they go ashore for fresh water and are ambushed by unseen assailants. The natives are driven off by accurate fire , with small loss, and the team retire to the ship. There follows a hurricane, which dismasts the ship, and leaves them helpless and drifting.

Dawn brings fresh hope, as they sight another ship in a similar plight to themselves. Shortly thereafter, they see a rowing boat approaching, with 4 men in it- one of which is a expensively dressed. Two rowing, and one is pointing a swivel gun at them.
There is a lot of shouting in "foreign", and the Spanish Captain boards them, demanding their surrender , in broken english. Archie Leitch decides to comply, but the others are not so craven, and they attack. Jimmy Duncan cuts off the Spaniard's head with one blow (much to his surprise). They then all try to jump into the rowing boat to deal with the swivel gun. This does not go well as they all fall into the sea. There is a wild stramash, involving quite a lot of failed swimming rolls, but eventually they get aboard and capture the rowing boat.
They then row over to the other ship, and find that the remaing crew consists of one seaman , lashed to the wheel (his legs are broken. he shoote at them and misses, and Craig Brown finishes him off.
They transfer to th enew ship, which is better than theirs, in that it is not sinking. A search reveals a hidden Spaniard, one Juan Batista, who speaks english.
They manage to jury rig a mast and eventually reach the Bahamas, where they enlist as privateers in Royalist service. their ship is repaired, and they set off in the newly renamed "Black Haggis" in search of Plunder.

Their first foray is successful, and they capture a Spanish schooner- this defrays their expenses incurred refitting in the Bahamas, so they head off on another expedition further into thr Carribean.
They are caught in another hurricane, and end up wrecked on a reef off the island of Culebra (Snake Island)

It takes a bit of effort getting supplies etc ashore from the wreck, but they are soon up and about, exploring. above the beach, they find a path, and nearby, a tree with what looks like an infilled grave underneath it......

They set up camp on the beach, and post a watch on the path at the top of the hill. Early the next morning they hear singing, and see a party of slaves, escorted by some Spanish soldiers, coming along. They start digging a hole , but once it gets to a man's height in depth, the slaves are ordered to stop, and they fill it in again. Odd. This happens repeatedly throughout the day, until the sun sets and the Spanish and slaves retire to a village a couple of miles away. Archie and co follow and do a recce, following which they decide to do a night attack. This succeeds, and they capture the Spanish Lieutenant and the slaves. The spanish soldiers are disposed of handily.
The lieutenant is "persuaded" to spill the beans and admits that they are looking for treasure, based on the clue in a rhyme
