Seeing as though we are all stuck away from the club for at least 4 weeks, I have come up with a game to keep us going in the meantime. Only for those interested, please don't feel obliged.
I toyed with setting up a normal miniature wargame on a table in my house and letting you all send in turn moves each day by email and playing the game that way. Or maybe setting up a google hangout/skype between 1pm and 5pm on each Sunday for us to play that way and I'll move the stuff around. Could be good for a laugh.
However, for a longer term game I would like to suggest the following:
The Game of Thrones: GDWC Edition
I own the Game of Thrones board game which I think would make a great play-by-email board game for us. It sits up to eight players so we can fit everyone in nicely.
Each player controls a family house who are contending to be crowned the next King of Westeros. I'll attach pictures to accompany this explanation.
The map is split into provinces which can be controlled. Across the board there are castles of which the first person to control 7 castles wins the game! Or whoever owns the most after 10 turns.
A sample turn:
1. Random events happen at the beginning of each turn. This will be explained at the beginning of each turn when they occur by Anton. Usually they restrict movement, force you to lose money, or gives everyone a boost in army recruitment.
2. For every army the controlling player controls, they must give them an order. The available orders are:
3. All moves will be enacted following a turn order called the Iron Throne. This is one of the random events of part 1 allowing players to spend Money to put themselves higher in the turn order.
4. Anton takes pictures of the new board layout and starts the next turn.
Battles
Available units are Soldiers, Cavalry, and Boats. When two armies fight, Soldiers = 1, Cavalry = 2, Boats = 1.
Boats can support adjacent land battles but not the other way around.
Add up the total strength of the armies.
There is a deck of cards that randomly modify each side, usually adding or subtracting 1.
Which ever side has the most points wins. The losing army retreats away.
If the retreating army cannot move away it is destroyed. If a retreating army is contacted again in the same turn after running away, it is immediately destroyed.
Therefore removing armies is difficult as it requires coordination and timing, and usually done in tandem with another allied player.
Anton will deal with all of this so don't worry about learning it.
Who fancies playing?
Houses are:
Lannister
Stark
Arryn
Greyjoy
Baratheon
Tyrell
Dorne
And only if we have all 8 players, Targaryen (who do have three dragons, oh my...)
Days per Turn
I think I will run the game one full turn every two days? This keeps the game moving without having to wait ages but also gives time for people to ally and discuss plans through email.

- March (move to any adjacent province. Moving into another player's occupied territory starts a battle)
- Defend (Stay where you are but better odds of winning a fight)
- Support (The army doesn't move but can join in any and all fights that happen adjacent, regardless whether they involve you or not...)
- Tax (Gain 1 Money)
- Muster (Limited to once per turn. Used in any occupied province with a castle to recruit more units)
