We had another visit from "Insurance Man" today. He's insisting that the church's Insurance company insist that we have 3rd Party Liability insurance. Personally, I think he's havering- I suspect he wants us out. Anyway, we need to have a Committee meeting for a few minutes next Sunday to work out our next steps. In the meantime I'll check out the likely costs

It all seems very silly, what about us putting in our 'constitution' that we are liable or something like that? Do we have any other contacts with the church to ask about this?

Dave will go down early next Sunday and see if he can speak to the Minister. Maybe we should ask for the Insurance company's comments in writing?

My mother in law works for the Priest at St. Mary's just around the corner. We have used their hall for events a lot of times. I'll ask her if she knows if there are any clubs that use their hall and if they have to pay insurance. TBH though its probably a building by building specific policy but might be good to have some insider info.

Quick thought, with the rise in costs of electricity and heating the ask for insurance money may be veiled request to off set it. Would definitely ask for insurance company paperwork.

The original tale was that the church had changed insurers, and the new policy doesn't cover non affiliated hall users.

Just to be clear, they are not asking for money, they want us to take out a 3rd party liability policy

He's definltly at it the church should have insurance for both building and content, if they don't there's something very wrong.

Yes, I agree Bob. He was very nervous yesterday. I think he has gone for cheap insurance for the church - and it doesn't cover the things the previous policy did. I'm going to ask for confirmation in writing of what insurance they think we need. To be honest, the policy I checked out wouldn't kill us , but it's a cost we could do without.

Sounds like the church went for cheaper insurance that doesn't cover every activity the church hall could be used for... almost sounds like a late April Fool's.
