I've just ordered a set of these- they are based on "Honours of War" so the mechanism should be familiar. There are significant differences however, to give the rules a Napoleonic flavour.

I'm keen to try these out in the New Year- unit sizes and basing as per Black Powder. To that end, I'm working on Peninsular French (ie on arid bases). I should have a couple of battalions ready for January.

We are short of French now for large battles. Think Brian has a skirmish sized force left, and I got rid of everything except the skirmish sized forces for Haiti, Egypt and Guerillas/Neapolitans.

I have a regiment of Poles and a regiment of French, plus I think a a couple of battalions of Cavalry, but they're not very handy up north with me!

We'll try a small game for starters- there is a scenario in the rules which will do for that. I have 2 battalions of French, plus 2 of Nassau, so between us we should have enough for the starter scenario. French cavalry might be short though. We can probably get by by borrowing 7YW stuff?

The first game was a success- we used 2 generic armies, and the scenario from the rules. We should probably have played with an 8 by 6 though. And maybe used unit sizes! My infantry were in 6 stand units, Alex's were in 4. 5 might be best..... Anyway, they seemed logical and were very fast and simple.

The bigger table worked! French Nassau Brigade- 3 battalions and a foot battery French Brigade- 4 Battalions and a foot battery 1 Legere battalion 1 Hussar Regiment 1st Dragoon Brigade- 3 Regiments and a horse battery 2nd Dragoon Brigade- 2 regiments All units Regular, horse battery Superior. CinC inspiring
Allies British Inf Brigade- 3 Battalions (Reg, superior for firing), Reg Foot battery Portuguese Inf Brigade- 3 Line battalions (reg), 1 superior Cacadores Battalion Spanish Brigade- 1 Regular battalion, 1 inferior battalion, 1 reg foot battery and 1 inferior dragoon regiment Cavalry Brigade- 1st KGL Dragoons. 13th Light Dragoons both Superior, Horse Battery (superior) Independant Units (all superior) 1st KGL Hussars, 2/95th Rifles, and the Rocket Troop
The French tried to sweep round the Allied right to attack the Spanish, who held their ground. On the other flank the British cavalry quickly routed the smaller dragoon brigade, while the Portuguese dealt with the Nassauers. The KGL Hussars charged a Nassau square, but were eventually beaten off. The rocket was pretty much as you would expect- variable! It did do some damage, and at one point nearly hit the 70th Foot by accident.
