The team cross the border in the company of an arms smuggling operation, and heads north, dodging the French air force. Sheltering in an oasis, there is a nasty incident when Rupert disturbs a scorpion, however Jakey saves the day by stamping on it. It's hot , and Adair sends Wei Mei to the pool to fetch water. Wei Mei and Rupert drink some, and are stricken some time later by "upset stomachs" (the skitters, in other words). Full marks for role playing chaps!
Eventually , they cross the wadi which marks the Hatay border, and hole up for the day. The peace is shattered by a patreol of Hatayan Border Guards, who spot the trucks and move in to investigate. There is an exchange of fire- Jakey killing 4 with 4 shots with his elephant gun, Wei Mei and Rupert also hit their targets, , but the star was Adair, who sprayed the countryside wildly with his Thompson, eventually hitting one unfortunate. Luckily, the thing then jammed. To top it all he took a bullet through the hand. Rupert springs forth an repairs the damage.
Once it's dark, they spot the forth that the patrol came from, and decide to attack. Wei Mei is sent to cut the telephone wire. He eventually makes it up th epole, but has only a penknife to cut the wire with. Unfortunately someone makes a call at that point and the wire becomes live, delivering a shock to the startled Chinaman, who falls off.....
A searchlight is switched on, and Jakey deals with this by shooting it out. A machine gun starts up , and is silenced by Adair. But the e., the gates swing open , and a staff car screams out, followed by a truck. And guess who is in the staff car. Yes it's Adair Air's favourite nemesis' (nemisii?).

The lads clean up the fort, having fun with Mills Bombs, and set off in pursuit. They catch up with the Hatayan army truck which had sprung an oil leak. The Hatayans spring an ambush. Not a good idea, as Adair and co cut loose with machine guns and grenades, wiping out the would be ambushers. They are then attacked by the Hatayan airfoce, in an ancient Aviatik biplane. Th.is is also dealt with by machine gun fire. Soon they arrive at the temple and dismount. No sign of Hi Ho and Co. Odd that. Puzzling even. Perhaps worrisome?

"Antrim Adair and the Temple of Rope"
As the sun rises, our eagle eyed heroes spot a figure in arab dress galloping towards them on a white stallion. In the spirit of desert hospitality, Adair shoots at him, and a shot is returned. At this point, Von Widdler, for it is he, takes off his kaffiyya and waves it as a flag of truce. He had got fed up being Von S's designated carer and has been racing after the party for some time. The gang enter the ruined temple and find the sliding panel which turns out to lead to a short drop into a passageway. going west, they come on a large burial chamber , which looks undisturbed, so they reverse course, and go east. Eventually they come on a rickety rope bridge. The lack of handrails is a bit unnerving, and it is only with frayed nerves and damp undergarments that they all get across. It gets worse though, as ahead they come upon a tipping slab of rock . Von W rushes across safely with a rope and they set up a sort of rope slide. Let us call this rope A. Adair then attaches to Rope A with rope 1 and Belt 4.2. Panic sets in halfway across and rope 1 gets tangled in rope B. A swig from hip flask D is thwarted when he drops it, and passes out from lack of whisky. Eventually Whei Mei sets up Rope C (i hope you are following this), and ties himself on with rope 2. He then rescues Adair by tying him to rope C with rope 3 and cutting rope 1. At the far end , there is a room with 6 bullion boxes stacked neatly. Oops. Now they have to get back across the slab, this time with boxes of gold roubles. Thus , Rupert and Whei Mei set off on rope a and rope c. And get stuck........... For the sake of brevity, I have omitted all of the Polish jokes, but a special mention is reserved for the suggestion that we have a Rope Pi.......

"Jakey versus Tank MkIV"
Eventually everyone is untangled, and a scheme is devised to get the bullion boxes across the tilting slab. Relieved, the party returns to the surface to find everything quiet. They load the trucks and head off down the valley. Suddenly they hear the squealing of tank tracks, and quickly reverse the reucks out of the way. Jakey buries a box of dynamite in the road, with a grenade and a rope to set it off. The tank drives over the box(it's dark) and Jakey pulls the rope. Click. No bang. He then climbs the back of the tank and fires his pistol into the driver's slit, causing mayhem. The tank slews off course, and tries to climb the bank , Wei Mei blocks the exhaust, causing the engine to stop. The commander then tries to shoot Jakey , but in opening the hatch allows him to shoot back, and that's the end of thet, jakey climbs in the hatch and starts shooting. The crew bale out of the side doors, and Adair, in his new role as Pol Pot , sportingly mows them down with a machine gun. At this point a limo arrives on the scene. Adair stops it with a well placed 6pdr round, ending the career of the driver and the Hatayan Finance Minister. Li Chi , Hi Ho and Madame Poontang bale out and take to the rocks above the road. Adair is hot for revenge and urges an attack, covered by MG fire. At this point, Jakey is hit by a lucky shot from Li Chi. Rupert wields a mighty bandage though and he is soon on his feet. Next to go down is Adair, when a bullet creases his scalp, again fired by Li Chi. Hi Ho shoots Wei Mei in the foot. All of this takes time to sort out, and by the time our bloodied heroes reach the rocks, the girls have disappeared into the darkness. Chinky proves no use as a bloodhound, and Adair is temporarily blinded by blood running down his face.

The return journey is pretty straightforward, despite a nasty scare as they take off from Amman when a herd of camels is driven across the runway by some Chinese in a limousine. Luckily Adair's piloting skills are up to scratch! They return to London and the Countess upholds her end of the bargain, so they are now all very rich. Rupert Fforbes- Golightly finishes his degree, and is now a fully fledged doctor.

Part 1- "The Laird of Strathborrach" or "Carnage in the Cairngorms"
The party assemble at Claridges for the luncheon, however Rupert fails to turn up. Instead, as the coffee is being served, a telegram is delivered to Mick Adair. It's from Rupert, and says that he has gone up to Scotland to inspect his new inheritance- a shooting lodge, but he will be back in time for the lunch- which he wasn't.
Adair telephones the police station in Futtock's end, and speaks to PC Trelawwney - and is directed to the butler at Gruntfuttock Hall, who turns out to be American, and very unhelpful. Finally he talks to DR Trelawny, who tells him that Rupert has inherited Strathborrach Lodge, in the Cairngorms, and took the train to Inverness from Bristol 3 days ago.
Without much debate, the team leave for the Highlands themselves, as it's clear that there has been fowl play. Arriving at Inverness by the overnight train, they hire a shooting brake, and head south on the winding road to Strathborrach. Luckily it's a big gar as there is a mob- Adair, Jakey, Huai Mei, Von Stauffenberg, Von Widdler, Gupta and Chinky the dog.
The road is single track, the weather closes in, and they meet a barrel laden truck coming the other way, which forces them off the road, despite Adair's attempts to avoid it. Sadly, the rear axle is bent and a wheel broken by a rock in the ditch, so there is no alternative but to set off on foot. It's a long walk in the pouring rain, and they are nearly run down by another truck, this time with sacks on it.
In late afternoon they arrive in Strathborrach, a tiny hamlet of half a dozen cottages and an inn. The innkeeper, Wullie MacTavish, is less than welcoming, and claims to have no rooms spare, due to the fishing party. The "fishing party " consists to two Americans, one a portly man in a loud set of tweed plus fours, the other a thin sallow man in a pin striped suit. They are rude to Hui Mei, and only slightly less so to Adair . At this point, the gang missed the clue that it is not the salmon season, and that the fishing gear hanging in the hallway of the Inn has not been used recently. Notwithstanding, they are suspicious, and decide to nick the powerful Packard Tourer, parked next to the pub.

"What's that Skippy?, Someone's down a mineshaft?" As a precaution Huai Mei snurgles down the corridor to tie the 2 American's doors together so they can't interfere, however he is heard, and has to make an excuse. "so solly, rooking for toiret". Thwarted, the team use knotted bedsheets to get out of the window. Jakey hotwires the car and they set off, returning fire as a gun is fired from the inn. They find the track to Strathborrach Lodge and note that it is heavily rutted with lorry tracks. And there is spilled barley... after a couple of miles, they spot a group of buildings off to the left, and stop to have a look. In the courtyard, they find a hole in the ground, from which faint cries for help are emerging. Von W chucks some rocks down the shaft to see how deep it is, cos that's apparently of overriding importance. Rupert, for it is he, is eventually pulled from the shaft (No1 Strathborrach Pit, according to a broken signboard) , and tells his tale. He went down to Devon, where his Uncle (Lord Horace Gruntfuttock), promptly fell off his perch. Learning that he was to inherit the Lodge, he decided to nip up to inspect the property , which was mothballed a few years before. When he got to the Strathborrach Inn, he fell into the company of 2 Americans, and told his tale. They offered him a lift , which he gratefully accepted. He was bopped on the head, and apparently dumped down an old mineshaft.Luckily a small bit of wooden platform arrested his fall. He's none the worse for the experience, other than a nasty bump on the back of his head, which Adair treats with whisky. he didn't mean to, but he missed his mouth..... They set off up the track again, but have only got as far as the next bend when they see the Americans running up the track behind them. Von S and Von W hide in the heather in order to ambush, but the baddies head into the mine, where they chuck a stick of dynamite down the shaft, presumably to make sure Rupert can't talk
There is just time for Von W to impersonate a sheep. Badly , it seems , for he is shot at....

The Yanks then head back down the track. The party drive on up the track, and com in view of the picturesque Strathborrach lodge, a gothic affair on the other side of the burn from the end of the track. The burn is crossed by a rope bridge, recently repaired. Numerous horse/mule hoofprints are visible, and some spilled barley.... Investigation of the lodge and outbuildings shoes recent use of the stables(thanks to von W for the expert analysis of the poo, using the highly respected taste test)and the kitchen. the hoofprints carry on past the lodge up the hill in a well worn track Exploration of the house reveals little disturbance, other than an estate book, with a page ripped out, in a section detailing operations at Strathborrach No2 Adit in 1875. They also find a gun cabinet, which Rupert has the keys to, containing two hunting rifles and 4 shotguns. Von W takes watch with a rifle in the turret room, smashing Rupert's windows to clear his field of fire . Some time later, the 2 Americans appear on the track, this time with Wullie the innkeeper. They are arguing, and one of the Yanks, points a gun at Wullie, evidently trying to get him to go over the burn. Von W, decides to save Wullie, and shoots the baddie in the arm. The 3 then duck behind the Packard (immobilised by Jakey earlier). 2 shots ring out. The the baddies leg it down the path. Von W decides to shoot Wullie in the leg. It's a cracking shot at 500yds. He hits the selected leg, rolling a critical, and severs the femoral artery. Wullie expires on the track. The hoods take cover in a ditch and crack off som ineffectual pistol shots. Adair goes out to get them, and discovers that they have put bullets into the Packard's nearside tyres. Next week "Still Game" (we're nothing if not topical......)

VonS, Jakey and Huai Mei exit the lodge to help Adair flush the gangsters from the ditch, however the shooting is wild, and The Americans are rescued by a conveniently arriving truck, and escape down the track.
A council of war in the Lodge decides that Von W and Rupert will stay behind, while the others follow the path over the shoulder of the mountain, to see if they can find the illicit still. It's a hard slog over the hill in the cold drizzle, but the team eventually spot a streamer of peat smoke, and what looks to be the entrance to a mine adit. A hood is leaning against the entrance, but is rubbish at spotting. Adair decides to wing him, and blows his arm off......

There follows a swift assault, resulting in a number of dead gangsters- helped by one of them fumbling his sawn off shotgun, , and another being dropped before he could cut loos with a tommy gun. Jakey gets stabbed quite badly in a surprise attack, but beats his assailant to death in revenge.
A couple of prisoners are recovered, and a still, stables and barrels of bootleg hooch are discovered in various rooms off the adit. The party return to Strathborrach, and report the affair to the police in Inverness. Due to their good standing with MI5 and Scotland Yard, no awkward questions are asked about all of the bodies. Heini, the distiller sings like a canary. There is a tearful scenes as the Excise Men take away the hooch. Adair is inconsolable, and would take to drink. If he had any. The police in Inverness find a lorry abandoned in the docks- the cargo appears to have been transferred to a puffer- Steam Lighter 32.

The lads are having a well deserved rest, lazing in deckchairs outside the Lodge one morning a short while later, when the espy the figure of postman MacNulty pushing his bike up the track, waving a yellow envelope. It turns out to be a telegram for Rupert from Dr Trelawney in Futtocks End. A crisis has arisen- his cousin Phyllis has gone missing, presumed abducted by the American butler.
The party races to Inverness in the repaired Packard, and take the night express to Kings Cross
