The column vs. line issue was the only real problem with Lasalle I have, there was just no reason to be in line.
Kind of like my one issue with Longstreet being that the best tactic was to launch bayonet charges, as receiving a charge was far worse.

Downloaded pdf set of v2, combat rules are one of the changes. Here is cooy taken from honour website.
Combat has been redesigned so that it is a more decisive either/or experience. Troops either press an attack home, or they are discouraged and fall back with few casualties to either side. Two annoying glitches in the first edition have been corrected: it is no longer possible to overwhelm a defender purely by massing numbers against him, and the fate of an infantry square is now entirely dependent upon the infantry’s steadiness and level of disruption

Davy, yes, one deep.
Alan, Sam Mustapha is a really innovative rules writer, but others have noted that his research occasionally has blind spots. His refusal to countenance any changes to Lasalle 1 was also a bit of an issue. While acknowledging that the Peninsular War was a minor part of the whole conflict, certainly in terms of numbers involved, it was crucial to the outcome, so to get something so completely out of kilter as column vs line is really odd.

Pretty much total re-write, but looks quite fun.

It's annoying because I do generally like his rules, and he does come up with interesting ideas.
The column vs. line issue is most notable for Peninsular War, but the game gives no reason for any army to ever form line. Which is odd considering that they all did. French attack columns would attempt to form line if the enemy didn't break, which in game terms would be a foolish thing to do.
You would also think he would understand that French against British is the most common Napoleonic game, so it's important to get that one right.

I like Lasalle, for all it's flaws, but Black Powder works better. We actually fought Waterloo with it and got the correct result. In truth , the Ball and Flag rules work as well.
