After the success of the recent big ACW game, it was suggested we tried the same format for WW2.
For those who weren't there on Sunday last, the Union and Confederate teams were split further into their own HQ Command and Field Command, who were separated in the room. By passing messages and orders, HQ Command dealt with the bigger picture of reinforcements and troop orders, while Field Command had to win the battles with what they were given. This was across multiple tables separated on a map, much like my previous games. HQ Command were unable to see the gaming tables and had to rely on whiteboard maps to keep track of the action.
I am happy to organise some rules and maps to keep the game simple enough to play in our 3 hour window. However, what scale should we use?
I own a fair amount of 15mm Flames of War Germans, but I hear we might have much more in the 20mm or 28mm range?
At first glance, here are the two army lists required for this game. I can, and probably will, smudge things around to fit the figures we have but here is something for people to compare against.
To keep the game moving swiftly, and to keep the action at a high strategic level, the forces available are simplified to: Infantry, Tanks (Medium, Heavy, Destroyer), Flak. This will give the game a more board game feel but at least allows us to put everything we own out and fight the whole battle.
Each base represents a brigade, making a collection of ~4 bases a Division, with on average 4-6 Divisions in a Corps. Each side has three armies present individually made up of around 3 Corps.
Infantry: 82 American, 27 British
Tanks: 33 American, 4 British
Tank Destroyers: 43 American
Heavy Tank: 3
Medium Tanks: 14
I own 44 bases of German infantry which can cover a good bulk of the forces. I think between Cameron and I we can also supply the tanks, though unlikely their true historical representations (which is irrelevant for our game anyway). Please if you can, list what you can bring to the table so I can fix the lists as needed. I have the maps ready and I am working on the rules.
Anton I have the following in 15mm 10 MK4 6 tigers 5 panthers 3 half-tracks 4 half-tracks with rocket launchers. 3 puma armoured cars 3 flak nests 3 Pak 40's 4 schwimwagens 21 infantry based including command bases.
