I'm intrigued- air attacks? I can only remember one that actually hit the right target! I do remember Alex hitting himself with one, right enough... I agree the Petard mortar range is too long- 12" seems more like it, but again, Churchill AVREs don't appear regularly. Once to my knowledge!

also, horrendously expensive! Also - re Petard. BA groundscale is a bit "flexible". Panzerfaust Kleine 30, actual range 30m is rated at 6". Flying Dustbins range was about 100m. Ergo-18"? Or maybe 6" = 30 to 50m? Ergo 12"Vehicle flame guns range is 12", which is about right at 100 yards

Early and mid war Germans perhaps, when they still have a chance.

Can you be more specific , Bob? What I kind of meant- what is the enemy unit that you prioritise as a target, or try to hide from?

Hope this helps, George! 21 Pz edged it today- with help from the USAAF who strafed their own army. The loss of the Veteran US Sherman to a Panzerfaust was fairly crucial, which allowed the German Assault Gun (SF39(H)) to cut loose, incidentally armed with a 105mm Howitzer. US paras proved very hard to kill!

Great game last night, with George trying out 1250 points of Italians, vs 1250 point of 8th Army, as a 2nd "learning " game. George had gone down the route (also tried by Tom) of not bothering with LMGs in most of his sections, on the grounds of cost. This didn't work well as the numerous Italian infantry were sprayed by long range Bren gun fire with no option to reply. The M13/40 got a kill early on, destroying my brand new India Pattern Wheeled carrier, but then "hurtled " across the table to deal with my Valentine, only to be immobilised by a Bren Carrier shooting into the vulnerable side from point blank. The Valentine then finished it off.

Interesting game today, between Alex (German, Defence of Italy) and me (British 8th army in Italy), 750 points , scenario 6. Very small armies- 3 squads per side, as it happened. Both had a halftrack, Alex had taken an SDKF& 251 with the short 75mm as well , whereas I had a Staghound Mk1. British had a 25pdr, Germans an 81mm mortar. Both sides had sniper teams. High rolling from both sides saw the Brits hit everything in sight, and the Germans fail order checks.... German sniper was outsniped by the 25pdr . The Staghound excelled itself, killing a lot of German infantry, and bagging a halftrack.

I think after taking quite a few poundings playing as the Japanese I might finally be getting my head around how to use them effectively, hopefully in time for the tournament

It was a good game, though I'm not sure that the veteran irregulars were a wise investment.

Hmm. Might have worked for Scenario 4, on the other hand, they would have attracted a lot of close range fire.
